If you look at the comment on the last posting, you'll see that Andrea Dollins and her husband live aboard their Westsail 32 in San Diego. Andrea, I'd like to know more about you and your boat. For example, what's the boat's name? How long have you lived aboard? Do you get away from the dock often and what sort of sailing do you do? Where do you go?
There's a lot that I can learn from people like Andrea. S0 much to know even on a boat that's only 32 feet long.
I wonder if anyone has ever counted the number of different pieces that it takes to make such a vessel. It must be in the thousands. And if you are going to truly be self-sufficient and practice good seamanship, shouldn't you know each piece intimately?
I keep discovering things on Robin that I didn't know existed, even after five years. I would guess that full-time living aboard teaches these lessons quickly. And that is why it's great to hear from Andrea.
So, Andrea, I hope you'll share some of your own experiences and help educate me.
Thanks.

    Hi Doug
Thanks for your intrest in our humble little lives here in So Cal, Well we've owned and lived aboard "Oasis" for two years, moving up from a Catalina 27 that we had for 10 years and believe it or not lived on for four years while we we're saving our pennies for our dream of a Westsail.
She's a 1974 factory finished model that we purchesed from a couple that lived on and cruised for 24 years!
We make a point of sailing at least once a month but usually it's every other week, we promised ourselves when we moved aboard that we wouldn't fall into the liveaboard never leave the dock trap that we have seen so often.
Your the one who can educate us as you have far more experience than we do! right now we mainly coastal cruise and go to Catalina.
Since we plan on doing some real cruising when my Husband Brad retires we're trying to build as much experience as possible in sailing and knowing the boat inside and out and yes we are always finding out new things about her all the time.
It's one of the things I love about this lifestyle, your always being challenged and there is always something new to learn and I truly enjoy it!
Well we're going sailing tomorrow so I need to get some stuff stowed away, so untill next time fair winds and who knows maybe Oasis and Robin will meet someday.

    Andrea Dollins
